Counseling

Many of my clients are experiencing a life transition. They are trying to redefine and rebuild their lives after life-altering events such as job loss, addiction recovery, loss of a loved one, or parenting issues.

My therapeutic approach is client-centered. Using a blend of Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, my integrative counseling style helps clients reframe their situation and determine the steps they might take to achieve life as they would like it to look and feel. Visual, interactive tools such as mind-mapping, family genograms, and/or life timelines are often helpful. To guide clients in identifying what gives them a feeling of purpose and motivates them to get out of bed in the morning, exercises that employ the Japanese philosophy of ‘Ikigai’, can be fun, revealing and helpful. Short-term results are a treatment focus so that clients can truly enjoy their lives moving forward.

An area of special interest and ongoing study for me is the long-term impact of childhood trauma. How do adverse experiences such as neglect, physical and/or emotional abuse, divorce, and/or parental/caregiver addiction or incarceration interrupt and alter our overall development? How does this developmental interruption affect the impactful decisions we make once we reach adulthood?

Workshops with an expressive arts focus may be a more comfortable option for individuals who feel hesitant about 1-on-1 therapy. A list of the workshops currently available are listed below.
